Tuckshop: working towards plastic free

New Farm State School tuckshop working towards plastic free

Do you see  our tuckshop ‘going green’? Tuckshop convenor Michelle is ahead of new legislation, which now bans the use of single use plastics.

The tuckshop serves meals – think pastas, chilli meals – in recyclable plastic containers, which would have remained compliant with new legislation.

However! Our new containers are fully compostable, including the lids. Michelle and her team have trialled a range of products, to make sure the containers will suit the food they’re serving, and not be too tricky for the kids to use – no-one wants a lid that can’t be opened, or one that spills food into the tuckshop bag.

The best bit – the new, compostable containers cost exactly the same as our recyclable containers – going green need not cost more!

If you have any ideas to take the tuckshop further down the sustainable path, please contact Michelle on hello@nfsspandc.com.au
